I realise it gets a bit repetitive but this Newsletter won’t be very much different from those in previous years – except, of course, there will be some changes to team or individual names.

2. Top doll scorer – Bobby Allen (Shakespeare B) with 244 dolls – an average of 3.486 per leg.

3. Ladies Top Doll Scorer – Tracey Denton (Ex Services A) with 189 dolls – averaging 2.10 dolls per leg.

4. Finals night – A new venue but the same, truly brilliant atmosphere once again - “an aunt sally spectacle”!

It gets better and better! Launton Sports and Social, and their staff, should feel so proud of what they achieved; special thanks to Kevin Powney, Steve Golder, and those helping out with the refreshments – thank you all very much! My thanks go out to them all for providing a spectacular venue and facilities for such an occasion.

Our sincere thanks to Clear Vision Financial Services for sponsoring the league – and I was informed on Finals Night that they are willing to continue to support us again next year – and to the ‘friends of the league’, many of whom wish to remain anonymous. Thank you all once again.

Finals Night Results

League Cup winners Ex Services B, playing outside for a change, saw off the challenge of the Shakespeare A.

League Plate winners The Rose and Crown in their first season in the League, beat the Bull Inn A.

Intermediate Cup winners The hosts and Division Three champions, Launton Sports and Social, were unable to see off the challenge of Brill Sports and Social A.

Intermediate Plate winners Long Crendon, also in their first season with us, beat the very joyous Crown Twyford.

The Phil Allen Four a Side Cup winners Other newcomers, Tiddington Cricket Club, made sure that the Shakespeare B fours (formerly White Lion) didn’t retain the trophy for a further season.

The Terry Hawkins Pairs Cup winners Karl Budd and Kevin Powney (Ex Services B) played well to stifle the threat, and beat, Pip Goulding and Pete Shepherd (Tiddington Cricket Club) and retain the Cup.

Division Two Pairs Cup winners Nick Cherry and Dave Gardner (Bull Inn A) did likewise to beat Andy Draper and Terry Hawkins (Barley Mow).

Division Three Pairs Cup winners Dick Pike and Matt Holmes (Crown B Charlton on Otmoor) won this one, beating Bill Mellis and Jason Harris (Highfield Social Club)

The Steve Huntley Memorial Singles Shield Pete Litten (Shakespeare A) and Clive Lampitt (Rose and Crown) contested the singles final with Clive winning it.

The Laurie Welford Memorial Division Two Dave Gardner (Bull Inn A) rounded off an unusually “not so good”

Singles winner season for himself by beating Andy Cox (Aston Club).


Division Three Singles winner The top two scorers in the division, Robert Taylor (Chandos Arms) and Steve Golder (Launton S&S), fought this one out with Robert being the better player on the night.

Division Four Singles winner Paul Symonds (Marsh Gibbon Village Hall One) has come good at the tail end of the season and, in this final, was too good for Keith Lennard (Ex Services A).

Ladies Singles winner Tracey Denton (Ex Services A) saw off the challenge of Cairene McCann (Marsh Gibbon Village Hall Two).


4. There are a few teams who need to be looking at improving their throws in readiness for next year – with regard to lighting in most cases; so, if you need any equipment or advice please let me know and I’ll do what I can to help.

5. This is probably the last you’ll hear from me until mid-January when I’ll start sending out application forms and so on for next season; however, as most of you’ll know, I am very approachable and if anyone wishes to contact me to discuss anything Aunt Sally related, then please do so – numbers are below.

6. All in all, a pretty good season. Congratulations to all this season’s winners and commiserations to those who came second best. Don’t let it grind you down, I want to see you all back again next season.
